I Can Blog About Timbits Too!

Turns out that being a slacker in the blogoshere runs in the family.  My sister has a wonderful blog and started out with the best intentions for blogging (just like me) but struggles to keep up with it at times.

This morning I bribed her with Timbits if she made a blog post for me to read.  Timbits are the cute little "donut hole-like" donuts offered at Tim Hortons.  For those of you that have never had Timmies, I truly feel for you... it is a Canadian staple.  So, my sister took my bribe literally and wrote an entire post about these yummy morsels.  So I figured, I might as well write a mini post about them too...

I also swiped this picture from her... I'm sure she won't mind, after all according to her, I rock!  And just look how happy she is with her snack :)  And we shouldn't forget to thank my "chauffeur", because she rocks too!

Oh How I've Waited...

I've waited for this day.  Literally for YEARS.  But it has finally come.  HAPPY DEADPOOL DVD RELEASE DAY!!!

I am sitting here, patiently waiting by my phone for HMV to call me and let me know that my pre-ordered copy has arrived.

The phone will ring any minute now.  I'm sure of it.  Maybe I will just go into the city anyways and see if it is there...

On the weekend, I had the pleasure of attending Women on a Mission.  This is a women's only event to raise money for a local community member.  This year's recipient was a co-worker of my mother's.  Every year, there is a theme for the event.  However since this was the 10th anniversary, each table could pick any of the themes from the past 9 years.  Our table chose "Fairytales and Superheroes" as our theme.  You already know who I dressed up as.  I worked all year to get my costume ready -- including learning to do SFX makeup, mainly from the Youtube artist Mykie. .  I think I did a pretty good job... I was happy with the outcome anyways (image shown is my "trial run"... for the night of the event, I had much more of my face covered).

Happy Star Wars Day

May the Fourth be with you...

Well... as predicted I have got to be the worst blogger in the history of blogging!  And I was off to such a good start.

It has been almost a month since I wrote anything here... I am unsure where I want the direction of this blog to go.  I like the idea of a "personal" blog, but I do not want to share alot of personal information with the blogosphere.  On the other hand, I do not want to limit myself to just one topic...  What's a girl to do?!

Excuse me? A were-what?!

I know... I am a little behind in the times when it comes to comic books and graphic novels.  Bad geek.  But it's never to late to start collecting, right... So here we go!

I love iZombie.  The show makes me smile and laugh.  I adore the characters.  It's a much lighter take on the zombie phenomenon, unlike The Walking Dead or Z Nation. I knew the show was based on a comic book series, but until recently I hadn't given the books much thought.

While out on a geeky shopping expedition with my current boyfriend, we decided to expand my comic collection.  I finally decided to start collecting the Walking Dead books.  Then I saw it... staring at me from a few shelves over...  iZombie.  I wanted it.  I had to have it.  Since I already had a pile of Walking Dead products I just grabbed iZombie: Dead to the World and proudly marched up to the cashier. I was a happy little geek.

That night I got home and unpacked my findings.  While my children played Minecraft, I started to read my new book.

What the fluff?!
What the hell is a were-terrier?!  Seriously.

I'm only about 12 pages in... I am enjoying the comic, however, take note it is not like the television show.  Lesson learned.

I hate Waiting...

So it's been a while since I have blogged... I've told you before, I am a terrible blogger.   Deal with it.

Now, I am a fan of the Walking Dead... but I do not over analyze the crap out of each episode, so I may have missed things or overlooked others.  Regardless, let's get into this...

*** This post contains SPOILERS.  You have been warned ***

The Walking Dead.  I know not everyone watches this show... but I believe the majority of us knows of the show.  And if not, where have you been for the past 6 yrs?!

Season 6 ended with the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers.  Outrage crept across the internet as fans were infuriated by the choice made by the Powers That Be, to end the season with a death... and not let us know which character met such an ill fate. Honestly, after watching this I felt nauseated.

Seriously people...  it's 2016 and this is arguably the most popular show on TV.  The creators can do whatever they want and they know we will blindly keep watching. All good shows have cliff hangers.  Dynasty, Friends, 24, The Simpsons, Lost, Dallas.  As infuriating as the cliffhangers are, they bring us back.  That's what good writers/shows do - they keep bringing us back.

Am I upset about the finale of The Walking Dead - Sure... in the sense that it is such a LONG wait to find out who died.  There are theories floating all over the internet... I am leaning towards the Eugene and Glenn theories.  I honestly do not think that Daryl will be leaving us via Negan's Bat. And I simply cannot buy the theory that it was Carl who met that fate.

Okay -- Here is a quick rundown of my thoughts.

My reasoning for believing it could be Eugene (even though he is not in the list I mention below) is simply because he gave Rick the recipe for making bullets.  We really don't *need* him around anymore now that Rick can figure out how to make bullets.

It's not Daryl... simply because he IS Daryl.  He does not exist in the graphic novels.  The writers have free range with him.  I find it hard to believe they would use such an iconic scene on a character that does not exist in the comics.  Although this character is so well liked, using this method of death certainly would shake things up for the fans.  It should be noted though, the Powers That Be, do like to mix things up.  On the show Denise suffered the fate of Abraham from the comics.  Let's face it, Daryl likely has the largest fan base of any of the characters, killing him off could hurt ratings.

Despite this picture that has been flying around Twitter, I do not believe this is a silhouette
of Carl before getting smashed with Lucille.  I think it is some type of trick with the shadows that just appears to be shaped similarly to Carl's hat to throw fans off.  Negan looks to his right briefly and states, "Anybody moves, anybody says anything, cut the boy's other eye out and feed it to his father."  Now, IF Negan were killing Carl 1) he would be able to take the eye out himself and feed it to Rick and 2) he should be looking to his left, where Rick was located in relation to Carl.  Since Negan glances to his right (indicating this is where Rick and Carl are located) the victim is someone to Rick's right... indicating one of the following Maggie, Abraham, Michonne, Daryl, Roista or Glenn.

I have no theories on Maggie, Michonne or Rosita because I simply do not believe any of them died in this scene.  Maggie is suffering some kind of sickness, perhaps from the pregnancy and fans have been told we will learn Maggie's diagnosis.  If she were the one to have been killed, I don't think we would learn what was wrong -- it's not like they customarily preform autopsies on this show.

So... Glenn.  I do like the character of Glenn, and it is sad to think the show will carry on without him but is my belief that the creators will stay true to the comics, and Glenn will be the one to meet death by bat.

Audio clarity in the final scene offers clues to support this theory.  Or you could simply use a visual analysis and deduct that Glenn is the unlucky one.  Time will tell...

What are your theories?  Comment here on the blog, or join my discussions on Twitter...

Chimichangas All Around

Anyone who knows me - at all - knows that I am a huge Deadpool fan.  I have been waiting for the movie for YEARS.  Literally... years.

If you don't know who Deadpool is - where in Hades have you been?!  Under a rock?!   Deadpool is a fictional anti-hero created by Marvel Comics.  He is known as the Merc with the Mouth.  He is rude, crude and I absolutely love him!!

23 ReasonsEveryone Should Love Deadpool << Click that link.  You know you want to.

I have been itching to go see the movie since it came out!!  However, craptacular weather has prevented me from seeing it.  Hoping to get out this weekend.  With my luck, land-locked Ontario will be struck by a rogue tsunami.

Music for Life

I've said it before... Music play a big part in my life.  I am constantly listening to something... anything really.  Musical genres make little difference to me.  Music is music.

There are tonnes of songs that would be on the Mix Tape of my life.  Blank Space & Shake It Off (by Taylor Swift).  Want to Want Me (Jason Derulo).  What Do You Want From Me (Adam Lambert).  I Like It (Enrique Iglesias).  Most songs form Marianas Trench.  Sucks to be You (Prozzak).  No Surprize (Daughtry).  This could be a very long mixed tape...

Boyband confessions... Well of course I grew up listening to New Kids... but my favourite band was Take That.  Does anyone remember them?!  Robbie was my favourite - Loved the Everything Changes video.  I was devastated when he went off on his own, but I did follow his solo career.

The best video they ever made was about 8 minutes long... they were babysitting an adorable red-headed girl and had a party after she went to bed.  I can't for the life of me remember the song (or find the video) but it was awesome.

A google search just informed me three of the members have gotten back together.  Boy, am I out of the loop...  Good for them!  I'm still sad Robbie isn't one of the returning members.

What's on your mixed tape of your life?

This was a mini-prompt from the Bloggerhood.  Check it out!

Little White Lies

We all do it -- little while lies that we tell ourselves or others.
We don't do it to be mean or spiteful.  It's just a little white lie...

I think the biggest lie I tell myself is "I don't need to write that down - I will remember it."

My memory is horrible.  If you want me to do something, make sure I write it down - or you will be reminding me.  Possibly several times.  I cannot count the times I have wrote a grocery list, left it at home, then tried to remember everything I needed while I am at the store.  Fun game.

In general, I think the picture to the left sums up white lies told by almost EVERY woman.  I know I have said them all on more than one occasion. These statements are meant to hurt you, more often then not they are to spare the other person's feelings or hide your own.

What about you -- what lies do you tell yourself?  Have you used any of these "common" girl lies??

If you liked this post, pop over to the Bloggerhood... new prompts are posted every Monday, Wednesday and Friday!.

Allergies Rule the World

I read an article today about a mother who has a pre-teen son with a peanut allergy.  I am not going to link to said article, because quite frankly, while I believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I believe what was written was very narrow minded.

That being said, food allergies are not uncommon in our household.  My eldest daughter and I share a peanut allergy and my youngest in intolerant of nuts (this means her body reacts violently to ingesting nuts and nut products... she vomits. Profusely.  Everywhere.  It's a mess).  The daughter of one of my closest friends has a newly discovered dairy allergy.  I have a cousin who is allergic to shellfish and various seasonal fruits. Believe me when I say, allergies are not uncommon around here.

Now this article, while it did make valid points about the rise in nuts based milks (due to the increase in dairy allergies), it seemed as though the author was placing her son's allergy in a higher priority than people with dairy allergies.  This is not a competition... no one allergy should out weigh another.

I do not envy anyone with a child with a dairy allergy.  Dairy products are literally in EVERYTHING.  Chicken fingers.  Hot dogs.  Baby formula.  Baked goods and pre-made mixes.  Cereal. Candy.  Potato chips.  Dairy and milk proteins are hidden in many places.  While I need to be diligent in reading labels for peanuts, it seems people with dairy allergies have to be even more so.

When it comes to the school board, they are VERY accommodating for peanut allergies and I appreciate this to no end.  Peanut products (and even Wow-butter, due to it's similar look to peanut butter) are banned.  What about dairy allergies?  Milk products are not banned.  We have milk and pizza days frequently.  So what happens to the poor children whose bodies cannot handle dairy proteins.  Our school (and specific teachers and Home & School Members) have been very diligent in protecting my friend's Kindergarten daughter from dairy.  They are learning to keep an eye out for dairy - Kudos to them!

However, this is where we get into a very sticky situation regarding allergies.  We simply cannot ban every food that is a potential allergen for children.  Since there are air-borne peanut allergies I understand that schools (and some work-places) must be a peanut free zone.  Is an air-borne dairy allergy even a possibility (I do not know, maybe I should look that up), but that does not make any single person with a peanut allergy more deserving of protection than that of any other kind of allergy.

Children with food allergies should be taught what foods they should avoid - and so should friends and family.  It should not be up to society keep a watchful eye out for the safety of your child.  That is your job as a parent.  If you see nut based-milks don't buy them if you have a peanut allergy! It's as simple as that.  Just remember that child with the dairy allergy would like to have "milk" on her cereal too...

Favourite Places

I will e the first to admit, I spend way too much time online.  It is almost scary how accurate that quote to the left is.  That is literally me.  Every night.

I do spend alot of time on Facebook, Instagram.  Pinterest.  Etsy.  Ravelry. Blogger. Twitch...  Wow that list is getting a lot longer than I had originally intended.

I watch several shows online too - since I do not have a PVR.  The sites I use are either Netflix or Couch Tuner, and occasionally Primewire.

Where do you spend the majority of your online time?

Flick4Friday: Top War-time Movies

I always loved my Flick4Friday feature that I had on my previous blogs, so when I was asked if I would be doing a similar feature on this blog, I was only too happy to oblige.

I recently joined a new (?) social network called Letterboxd.  I love it there.  I haven't met or talked to anyone, but I am loving the concept of it... it is a place to keep track of all the movies I watch.

I have never really been big on war movies but it was the HBO series, Band Of Brothers (I did not watch the original airing... I believe it was 2014 when I actually watched this mini series) that made me watch a few.  You will notice this is only a Top Five List (because I haven't seen many movies of this genre) and the majority of the movies are recent (again, because I never had an interest in this genre).

For a more detailed look at these movies, please visit my Letterboxd List.

:: Top5 War-Time Movies ::
  1. Band of Brothers
  2. Unbroken
  3. Fury
  4. Against the Sun
  5.  The Imitation Game
What is on your list of must-see war-time movies? Let me know in the comments!

Saucy Dog and Friends!!

A house isn't a home with a pet... or two... or three... or six?!

If you follow me on Instagram, you have undoubtedly seen some of the adventures of my Saucy Dog.  No... his name is not Saucy Dog.  That's just his online persona.

This little man - next to my son - is one of the most important males in my life.  He is the one that has always been there for me.  And his is the smiling face I am greeted with every morning.

Since he is a tiny long-haired chihuahua, he accompanies us many places.

Next is our Colossal Kitty.  This large fella is part Mainecoon... and certainly is a hefty kitty.
He and I truly have a love-hate relationship.

And then we have Kooky Kitty.  She is the youngest of our bunch.  And she quite possibly may be insane (or possibly inbred).  Either way, we love her for all her uniqueness.

And lastly - meet our critters... Hook, Rumple and Romeo, my little gerbils.

We certainly do have a full house full of love!

The Bloggerhood wants to know who or what inspires me.

I find this to be a tricky question because there isn't just one thing in my life that creates inspiration.

My children inspire me everyday... To be a better person and a better mother; To give them the best of me at all times.

My mother inspires me often through her cooking.

My sister is an inspiration.  She was a teenage mother and I am so impressed and proud of how far she has come.

I could just keep going with this list...
What inspires you?

I Don't Like People...

It's not that I am antisocial.  I just don't really like people.  People ruined that for me.

I do like celebrities though.  Well, I like TV and movies.  Or maybe I just like having something to watch while I eat popcorn?!

Okay - back to the topic at hand... five of my favourite famous people, as requested by the Bloggerhood, in no particular order:

Joshua Gates.  I seriously love this man.  I think I have seen every show he has ever done.  I'm not entirely sure why I find him so captivating.  I think he has a dream job -- traveling around the world discovering things... yes please (minus the talking to people part)!

Ryan Reynolds.  Let's just take a moment and appreciate all the fine acting this man has done.  And ya know, I will even accept the Green Lantern in it's flawed goodness (It's Ryan Reynolds in an animated skin-tight green suit - just shut-up and watch!).  Reynolds has been a favourite of mine for as long as I can remember.  And now that Deadpool is coming out I am in fangirl heaven!! My favourite actor and my favourite Marvel character... as one?! *faints*

Zak Bagans.  I think Zak is one celebrity I could actually handle meeting.  He is fascinating and his work with the paranormal is superior to other ghost hunters.  I have enjoyed all of his books as well.

Along those lines, before Ghost Adventures, came Paranormal State. I truly admire Ryan Buell. Years ago he came out of the closet, which could not have been an easy decision because of his close work with the catholic church.  Since then, he has battled cancer, and gotten married to his co-star.  I tune in weekly to Twitch and watch him and Surgey on their paranormal gaming channel.

For the last one on my list, I am going to say the cast of Supernatural! I love this show, and the whole cast -- they make me laugh.

There's a Song for That...

I listen to a lot of music.  All the time.

My computer is constantly playing a playlist.  Even when I am not home... I'm sure my dog likes music as much as I do.

I don't have one genre of music I prefer... well, I don't listen to opera often; but I wouldn't say that I despise it either - I mean, Phantom of the Opera is just magical!

I'm not sure I could even begin to narrow my list of favourites down... so how about the first 4 songs on my current playlist?  That sounds good to me!

Sorry.  I'm not saying I am a huge fan of the Biebs...  but there are a few songs that I have added to my playlist despite the disgust of my eldest daughter.  Sorry recently hit the top of my list.  Every song reminds me of someone, and after receiving a drunken phone call one night, this song was eerily similar to what I was told in that call.  No worries there, dear readers - I hung up on him!

Song number two -- Honey, I'm Good!  I need to find me a man like the one described in this Andy Grammer song...

I'm not going to lie -- I'm a bit of a Taylor Swift fan.  Wildest Dreams reminds me of someone who shall remain nameless.  There is always that one that got away, right?

Want to Want Me has been on my playlist for quite some time!  And I must say, I prefer the duet version by Jason Derulo and Luke Brian!  If you haven't heard it, what are you waiting for?!  And yes, you have to sing along.   It is a requirement for this song.

I Don't Drink Coffee... Much

I have never been a big coffee drinker.
That is until my doctor told me not to drink it.

I know -- insane childish logic there... as soon as I am told I can't have it - I decide I can tolerate a cup every now and then.  I do not like regular coffee though - it has to be flavoured (caramel or french vanilla, please) or mixed with something.  My daughter came up with a wonderful creation the other day -- half a cup of decaf coffee (I figure decaf is more acceptable then full strength coffee), half a cup of milk, a spoonful of brown sugar and a heaping spoonful of our homemade hot cocoa mix.  I'm not sure what you would call this creation - perhaps a Caramel Mocha of sorts? - But is it delicious!!

Tea on the other hand is a complete different story!  I love tea.  Black tea.  White tea.  Green tea.  Oolong tea.  Kombucha tea (I'm learning to make my own!).  Roobios tea.  Milk tea. Herbal tea.  Iced tea. I guess you could say I am an avid tea drinker.  While I do enjoy sugar in my coffee creations, my Papa always taught me that adding sugar to tea ruined the taste.  It is acceptable to add milk - or honey if you are feeling under the weather, but never EVER sugar. I have failed my grandfather in that aspect with my daughters as they will only drink it with sugar.  I wish Papa was here to instill his wisdom on them...

When it comes to alcoholic beverages - while I do not partake often, or much at a time - I do enjoy rum based drinks.  Pina Coladas would be near the top of my list.  Oh who am I kidding?! I am a fan of pretty much any "girlie drink".

Do I Smell Food?!

The going joke in my family is that we only get together to eat.  I'm totally serious - we love food that much.  And it is  not uncommon for certain members to only show up to a gathering when there is the mention that food will be served.  This weekend alone, we are having a party just to try out a new fried dill pickle recipe.  That's just how we roll.

With that said, I am not a glutton - but I really am not sure I can narrow my likes down to two as suggested by The Bloggerhood Challenge.

I have a huge sweet-tooth.  I love desserts and chocolate.

And potatoes.  I don't think I could live without potatoes... mashed potates, baked potatoes, scalloped potatoes, fries, chips... mmmmm.

I think one food that always makes me (and my children) come running is my mothers rice pudding.  Seriously, her rice pudding is the best one I have ever tasted.  She doesn't make it too often though, and that is likely a good thing because it is difficult to stop at one bowl.  Come to think of it, pretty much everything my mother makes is delicious.  Her dill pickles are to die for!

I can't really narrow it down to another favourite food.  Can I say breakfast?  I would prefer to eat breakfast over other meals... but not at "breakfast time".  Breakfast generally occurs too early for me!

10 Day Bloggerhood Challenge

Over at The Bloggerhood a 10 Day Back to Blogging Challenge has been posted; since I am easing myself back into blogging, a Back to Blogging Challenge sounds like something that I need in my life.  While I can't guarantee I will complete every Bloggerhood monthly challenge, this one feels right.

So, what is Should I Blog That primarily about?

I think this is something I struggle with greatly when it comes to blogging.  I already own a crochet blog (two actually). And it is easy to narrow does topics for those blogs... I mean.. they are CROCHET blogs.  I'm not going to be posting pictures of my latest vacation on them.

I have owned the "Should I Blog That" blogger domain since college.  After having children I felt I had outgrown the title - but just couldn't bring myself to delete it.  I loved the concept I had for the title.  Should I Blog That??  Literally - is that something I should blog about...

Once I had wanted to be a Mommy Blogger - I guess technically I am - I'm a Mom, and I blog... but this isn't a typical "mommy blog".  I do not plan on blogging constantly about my children.  Yes, they are a HUGE part of my life... but this is my blog; my little piece of the Internet that allows me to get away from mommyhood.  In all likelihood, the occasional post about my children may pop up, but that is not what with blog is about.

This blog is about me...  whatever that means.  Let's just hope I keep up with it this time.

Goodreads -- Not Great in 2015

It would appear that I didn't do well with my Goodreads Book Challenge for 2015... I completed a mere 24% of my challenge, only reading 6 books.

But this is a new year and I vow to to better this year!  I've even gotten my children involved. First things first, is to find a good series to start with.  Recommendations?  Anyone??

I think I may start with the Bane Chronicles.  I absolutely LOVED the Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, so I anticipate these to be a good (and quick) read as well.

Back in the Blogosphere

I will admit, I haven't been the best blogger.

My intentions were good, but I believe moving to my own domain was not necessarily the best move.

So here I am, back and joining the wonderful world of Blogger.

Do people even use the word "blogosphere" anymore??  Perhaps I am aging myself with that term.

Still following me through my blogging blunders - great!  New to my blog - welcome!  I do hope you come back for more.  Although I will admit, I don't have an exact plan for this blog - I'm just going to see where it takes me.

Grab a hot drink - it's cold out... it is winter in Canada afterall - and enjoy your stay!
